Dan Dungaciu, decorated by President of Republic of Moldova

The interim President of Republic of Moldova Mihai Ghimpu signed a decree on bestowing an ‘Order of Honour' to Dan Dungaciu, University Professor at the University of Bucharest.

The honour was bestowed to the Romanian Professor as a sing of high appreciation and for his special merits in promoting freedom of speech and also for substantial contribution to the national rebirth process and the promotion of democracy and of general human values, says a release of the presidential administration in Chisinau.

Dan Dungaciu is Reader at the Faculty of Sociology and Social Assistance with the University of Bucharest and also studied or worked as associated researcher in various Western institutions. He is a member in many international and national association and laureate of the ‘Dimitrie Gusť prize for sociology offered by the Romanian Academy (1995) and the International Prize for Sociology with the University of Istanbul (2001).

Dungaciu wrote tens of studies and numerous books, among the most recent ‘The Nation and Challenges of Postmodernism' (2004), ‘Moldova ante portas' (2005), ‘Romania and Romanians surrounding it' (2006), ‘Portraits and Controversies' (2007). Moreover, he is a famous expert in the situation in Republic of Moldova and author of articles and analyses, including of a book titled ‘Who are we? Chronicles from East and West'.
