WASHINGTON, June 3 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- U.S. producers of carbon and alloy steel wire rod expressed overall satisfaction with the U.S. International Trade Commission's (ITC) decision today to maintain antidumping orders on carbon and certain alloy steel wire rod from Brazil, Indonesia, Mexico, Moldova, Trinidad and Tobago, and Ukraine. As a result of the Commission's decision, import restraints on the six countries will remain in place for another five years. The ITC made a negative determination concerning the antidumping orders on carbon and certain alloy steel wire rod from Canada.
The lead Counsel to the Wire Rod Coalition, Paul Rosenthal of Kelley Drye & Warren LLP said, "We are pleased that the ITC voted to maintain antidumping orders on Brazil, Indonesia, Mexico, Moldova, Trinidad and Tobago, and Ukraine. Although the negative determination on Canadian imports is disappointing, maintenance of the antidumping orders for the other countries is extremely important to the health of the domestic industry."
The domestic producers who comprise the Wire Rod Coalition are: Keystone Steel & Wire Co., Nucor Corporation, ArcelorMittal USA, Gerdau Ameristeel Corporation, and Rocky Mountain Steel Mills.
In December 2007, the ITC announced its plan to conduct full five-year sunset reviews regarding the countervailing duty order on carbon and certain alloy steel wire rod from Brazil and antidumping duty orders on wire rod from Brazil, Canada, Indonesia, Mexico, Moldova, Trinidad and Tobago, and Ukraine. This decision was made in accordance with the Uruguay Round Agreements Act, which requires the Department of Commerce and the ITC to conduct reviews no later than five years after an antidumping or countervailing duty order is issued to determine whether revoking the order would potentially lead to continuation or recurrence of dumping or subsidies and of material injury.
The ITC will issue its written opinion in the weeks to come as a follow up to the vote.
