The agenda of the visit includes a meeting with the President, Vladimir Voronin, the Prime Minister, Zinaida Greceanii, the Chairman of the Parliament, Marian Lupu, and the Deputy Prime Minister, A. Stratan, who is to host the visit. Minister Sikorski will also meet representatives of the Moldovan opposition parties and the Polish Diaspora. In addition, the agenda also includes a joint press conference with both Ministers and an interview with Minister Sikorski for Moldovan TV.
The objective of the visit is to activate mutual relations and make them more dynamic in both a bilateral and an EU context. There are no contentious issues within the bilateral relations and the Polish minority living in Moldova enjoys all rights and freedom.
Poland wishes to go beyond the current forms of support for Moldova’s European aspirations and the plans to solve the Transnistria problem. By confirming participation in the European Union Border Assistance Mission (EUBAM) and the Mobility Partnership, we would like to present a Polish and Swedish initiative, ’Eastern Partnership’ and, within the framework of this initiative, assess the possibility of enhanced bilateral and multilateral cooperation. Much of the time during the visit will be devoted to issues related to Poland’s development assistance for Moldova and to linking these issues with the economic projects agreed during the meeting of the Polish-Moldovan Commission for Economic Cooperation, which was held in Warsaw on 11.06. 2008.
