Republic of Moldova personalities cast ballot in Romanian presidential poll

Well-known personalities in the Republic of Moldova, such as Chisinau mayor Dorin Chirtoaca and Authors' Union chairman Mihai Cimpoi cast a ballot here on Sunday in the Romanian presidential poll, saying they were in favour of Romania's support for their country's European integration, a lasting development of the relations between Romania and the Republic of Moldova and of political stability in Bucharest.

‘I voted for the modernisation of the Romanian state, for the modernisation of the Romanian state institutions and for Romania to continue to offer the Republic of Moldova the necessary support for its EU accession', Chirtoaca told. He stressed he was expecting the election to bring a stepped up process of re-gaining Romanian citizenship and to offer a broad framework for the Republic of Moldova's citizens so that the procedure may be simple too.

Cimpoi said he had voted for normal brotherly relations with Romania, since such relations had been seriously affected by the Communist authorities. ‘We'd like these relations to really take us to European integration and to Romanian cultural integration. I expect political stability, economic prosperity and cultural prosperity, naturally', he stressed.

Liberal Party vice president Corina Fusu said she had cast a ballot so that all the Romanians everywhere should feel that their country, Romania, takes care of all its citizens. Romania can be the best and safest advocate that should ease and shorten the Republic of Moldova's road to EU integration, she stressed. As many as 13 polling stations have been opened in the Republic of Moldova.
