The US-run Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) said Monday it will give 262 million dollars in aid to Moldova to improve agriculture and roads.
"This grant represents new opportunities, new jobs, new technologies, expanded productivity, and increased access to markets and commerce," Darius Teter, an MCC executive, said in a statement.
"This compact is a testament to Moldova's commitment to poverty reduction," he added.
The five-year grant will "improve irrigation infrastructure and management; increase the production and marketing of high value agricultural products; and rehabilitate part of the country?s national road network," the MCC said.
The MCC, which was set up under the presidency of George W. Bush, helps developing countries reduce their levels of poverty as long as they meet performance criteria on the rule of law and democratic principles. (AFP)
