As promised during the recent visit of Commissioner for Trade and European Neighbourhood Policy Benita Ferrero-Waldner to Chisinau, 26-27 November 2009, the European Commission is launching a High Level Policy Advisers group to guide and support Moldova in its political and economic reforms.
Today's EU - Republic of Moldova Cooperation Council, marks the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding confirming the agreement that the European Commission should provide the Government of the Republic of Moldova with a High Level Policy Advisory Mission. The objective of the mission is to help accelerate political association and further economic integration between the European Union and the Republic of Moldova.
Commissioner Ferrero-Waldner said: "Following the success of our High Level Advisers' Mission in Armenia, I am delighted that we are responding swiftly to the request of the Moldovan government to provide a similar Advisers' group. The aim is to ensure that in the highest levels of government the Republic of Moldova has access to all the advice and expertise it needs to push ahead with crucial reforms. We will now move as quickly as possible to appoint a team of advisers in the new year".
The Advisory Mission will be working with key governmental institutions including the Prime Minister's Office, the Ministries of Justice, Economy, Finance, Interior, the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister responsible for relations with the Transnistrian region and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration. Their policy advice will contribute to the implementation of the Programmes of the Moldovan government on "European Integration: Freedom, Democracy, Welfare 2009-2013", as well as on the "Stabilisation and Economic Recovery Plan 2009-2011".
