Moldova, Transdniestrian officials meet to promote Transdniestria settlement process

Moldovan Deputy Reintegration Minister Viktor Osipov and Transdniestrian Foreign Minister Vladimir Iastrebciac met in Chisinau on Tuesday to hold another round of negotiations toward settling the Transdniestria conflict.

The meeting took place at the OSCE office in Chisinau, the Moldovan government press service.

Osipov and Iastrebciac considered "aspects related to the implementation of agreements reached earlier at the meetings in Vienna and Bender concerning the promotion of confidence building measures in the context of the Transdniestria problem resolution," it said.

The two diplomats "reaffirmed a mutual desire to add an incentive to the activity of the confidence building working groups and agreed, in particular, to have a joint meeting of coordinators of these working groups representing Chisinau and Tiraspol in early February. They also welcomed the Kazakh OSCE chairmanship's initiative regarding the organization of another meeting in the 5+2 format in the near future," it said.

The 5+2 format envisions involvement of Moldova, Transdniestria, the OSCE, Russia, and Ukraine plus monitors from the U.S. and the EU in the negotiations on Transdniestria. (Interfax-Ukraine )
