New Head of the European Union Delegation to Moldova visited Gagauzia for the first time

In the framework of the EU - R. Moldova relations, the new Head of the European Union Delegation to Moldova, Ambassador Dirk Schuebel, paid his first visit to the TAU Gagauzia, accompanied by the Swedish Chargé d'Affaires, Julius Liljestrom.

The delegation had meetings with the Governor of Gagauzia, Mr. Mihail Formuzal, the mayor of Comrat, Mr. Nicolae Dudoglo, the President of the State University, Mr. Serghey Zaharia and with representatives of European firms that invest in the region. The main purpose of the meetings was to exchange views on the current economic, social and educational environment in Gagauzia.

"The European Union announced recently a more in-depth relation with the Republic of Moldova, with the launch of the negotiations on Association Agreement. Thus, we consider it is an appropriate time to establish closer relations with the society from ATU Gagauzia as part of Moldovan society", said HE Mr. Dirk Schuebel, Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova during his visit.

The EU representatives also held a meeting with students from the Comrat State University, where informed them about the work of the EU Delegation to Moldova and discussed bilateral relations between the EU and Moldova. Within the library of the State University of Gagauzia was inaugurated a permanent EU Info Point, where students will have the opportunity to get more information on the European Union and on the EU Assistance to Moldova.
