Romanian presidential adviser Leonard Orban told a conference on Monday on Romania and Moldova in the new geopolitical context, opportunities, challenges, solutions, that Romania is extending full support to Moldova's European Union membership bid.
'We are a close European state and we are supporting the aspirations of the population of Moldova. Moldova has both potentials and the will to become a model for success,' said Orban, adding that Moldova has essential steps to take to get closer to the EU.
He said Moldova should continue its domestic reform.
'My personal advice is that efforts should focus on reforming the Republic of Moldova, instead of attempts to change the status to reflect the connections with the EU,' said Orban, a former European commissioner.
The conference called 'Romania and the Republic of Moldova in the new geopolitical context :opportunities, challenges, solutions' was organised by the European Institute in Romania (IER) and the Viitorul Institute for Development and Initiatives of Moldova, in partnership with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation of Romania and the Moldova Institute Leipzig.
