The U.S. Embassy Provides Assistance to Moldovan Flood Victims

The U.S. Embassy expresses its condolences to the victims of the recent floods and will provide $50,000 to purchase emergency relief supplies for Moldovan citizens who have been affected by the flooding of the Prut and Nistru rivers. In addition to this financial assistance, the U.S. will provide cots, pillows, blankets, sheets, sleeping bags, and personal hygiene supplies in the amount of over $250,000 to persons in the affected areas.

Since June 24, heavy rainfall in Ukraine and Moldova has caused flooding along the Prut and Nistru rivers. According to the latest information provided by the Government of Moldova, approximately 3,000 people have been displaced, more than 650 homes have been destroyed, and large areas of farmland have been flooded.

The U.S. Embassy commends the Government of Moldova for its swift response to meet the humanitarian needs of its citizens in the affected regions and for its ongoing efforts to protect its citizens in areas still threatened by flood waters. The U.S. Embassy stands ready to consider providing additional assistance in conjunction with any future assistance requests from the Government of Moldova.
