Helen Clark, Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) will visit the Republic of Moldova during September 9-10. This is the first official visit of the UNDP Administrator to Moldova and takes place on the eve of the High Level Summit on the Millennium Development Goals where world leaders, including from the Republic of Moldova, will gather to review progress on the MDGs and chart the way for the 5 years left to the target date of 2015.
The agenda of the visit includes meetings with Mihai Ghimpu, Speaker of the Parliament and Acting President, Vladimir Filat, Prime-Minister, and members of the Cabinet, representatives of the donor community and civil society and a field visit to UNDP-funded projects in several communities in Moldova. UNDP Administrator will discuss with Moldova's officials UNDP's support to the country in overcoming the economic, social and political challenges and steps towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015.
Helen Clark became the Administrator of UNDP on 17 April 2009, the third highest ranking position in the UN system hierarchy. She is also the first woman to lead the organization.
