MEP Macovei asks EU action plan to remove visas for citizens of Republic of Moldova

MEP Monica Macovei (European People's Party - the Democratic Liberal Party - EPP-PDL) asks an action plan for the removal of the visas for the citizens of Republic of Moldova traveling to the European Union, informs a release sent to AGERPRES.

'Let's treat the Republic of Moldova as it deserves. On Oct 25, I'll ask the EU Council an action plan so that the citizens of the Republic of Moldova should be allowed to travel without visas. Today, the European Parliament passed a Resolution on the implemented reforms and the developments in the Republic of Moldova. A broad majority voted in favour of the Resolution,' said Macovei who heads the EU - the Republic of Moldova delegation for parliamentary cooperation.

The debate and the draft resolution were initiated by the EPP group, on MEP Monica Macovei's proposal.

Likewise, MEP Macovei asked that the Republic of Moldova should be assessed based on its merits.

'Moldova is now the state in the eastern vicinity of the EU, scoring the biggest progresses. Progress means political will, work and dedication, and this must be rewarded. We rewarded the Western Balkans for the measures they took, let's do the same with the Republic of Moldova,' the Romanian MEP a member of the Democratic Liberal Party (PDL - major in the ruling coalition) and of the European People's Party group, the largest in the European Parliament (265 members).
