Romanian Foreign Minister Teodor Baconschi on Monday voiced hope that the border between the Republic of Moldova and Romania will become an internal border of the European Union, reiterating Romania's support for Moldova's European path.
'I am convinced that today's statements of firm support voiced by President of the European Commission, Mr. Barroso, can only inspire us to continue placing this bilateral relationship irreversibly in a European logic. We want the Republic of Moldova to follow this path and we want this border to gradually fade away when all the conditions are met and for it to become an internal border of the European Union,' Baconschi said after the signing of a treaty between Romania and Moldova on the regime of state borders, cooperation and mutual assistance in the area of border affairs.
President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Durao Barrosos also hailed the signing of the border treaty between Romania and Moldova in a speech to the opening of a Danube Summit hosted by Bucharest City on Monday.
Barroso said he is hailing the treaty as an excellent example of what can be achieved when there is mutual interest. AGERPRES
