U.S. Deputy Assistant Treasury Secretary Visits Moldova

U.S. Deputy Assistant Treasury Secretary Larry McDonald concluded a two-day visit to the Republic of Moldova, during which he discussed the ongoing technical assistance provided to Moldova through the U.S. Treasury Department's Office of Technical Assistance in response to the global financial crisis.  Deputy Assistant Secretary McDonald met with Finance Minister Veaceslav Negruta, Governor of the Moldovan National Bank, Dorin Dragutanu, other Moldovan Government officials, and private sector representatives.

Beginning in 2009, technical advisors from the U.S. Treasury Department have been working with the Moldovan Ministry of Finance and the Moldovan National Bank to help these institutions strengthen their cash management practices, standardize their reporting procedures, and develop controls that will improve their separate and coordinated abilities to handle economic crises.

As a result of U.S. Treasury Department assistance, the Ministry of Finance and the Moldovan National Bank are better prepared to overcome short-term economic shocks, and to build sustainable, long-term economic growth.  U.S. technical advisors will again visit Moldova in February 2011.
