Cutting edge database system donated to Moldova Border Guard Service

Two special computers for the Edison TD system - a travel-document database system - have been donated to the Moldovan Border Guard Service (MDBGS) by the EU Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM).

The equipment will enable Moldovan border guards to better access the Edison TD electronic library that was provided to the service last year through the ‘Strengthening Capacities and Cooperation in the Identification of Forged and Falsified Travel Documents at the Moldova-Romania Border' project of the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD).   One computer will be used by border guards for document examination, while the second will be used at Chisinau Airport. According to a press release, the equipment will significantly improve the fight against illegal migration and other cross-border crime by improving detection of forged and falsified travel documents.   The handover ceremony took place at the MDBGS headquarters during a meeting dedicated to the implementation of the Integrated Border Management (IBM) strategy in Moldova.   The EU Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM) contributes to the delivery of good quality border and customs services to the citizens and companies of Moldova, Ukraine and the European Union. Together with border guard and customs services of Moldova and Ukraine the Mission facilitates people-to-people contacts, legitimate trade and security. (ENPI Info Centre)
