In a ceremony today at the Interior Ministry, Deputy Chief of Mission Marcus Micheli announced the donation of automated ballistics equipment to the Moldovan Ministry of Internal Affairs. This equipment is valued at over $338,000 and will dramatically enhance Moldovan law enforcement's ability to record and catalogue ballistics information on the over 40,000 weapons registered in Moldova.
"This equipment constitutes a remarkable improvement that will contribute to the increased use of objective and scientifically substantiated evidence in criminal investigations," said Micheli.
The donation of this automated ballistics equipment is the latest example of the existing partnership between U.S. and Moldovan law enforcement and represents the United States' ongoing support of Moldova's efforts to implement rule of law principles.
