Romania, Republic of Moldova sign cooperation protocols on energy, education and justice

Officials of the Romanian Government and of the Government of the Republic of Moldova signed several cooperation protocols, namely on energy security, education and justice, in Chisinau, on Tuesday.

The Prime Ministers of the two countries also signed a joint statement on the bilateral cooperation in the energy security, the building of the Iasi-Ungheni pipeline, and the Suceava-Balti and Iasi-Ungheni electricity grids included.

'Personally, I am glad we signed this joint statement also establishing the tangible terms of the implementation of the energy project which is to secure the energy safety of the Republic of Moldova, ' Moldovan Prime Minster Vlad Filat said.

He also added that the project becomes operational by end 2013.

Likewise, PM Filat stressed that the parties also agreed on building an 400 KW electricity interconnection grid between Iasi and Ungheni and on the finalization of the 100 KW Godesti -Falciu grid.

In his turn, Romania's Prime Minister Victor Ponta announced the Romanian side fulfills the grid by late 2012, and the Iasi-Ungheni interconnection grid becomes operational by Dec 1, 2013.

At the same time, Romania's Education Minister and her Moldovan counterpart signed a cooperation protocol for the academic years 2012-2013, 213-2014 and 2014-2o15.

PM Vlad Filat stressed that according to the protocol 5,000 Moldovan students may study in Romania.

'I'd like these young people studying in Romanian to return home and contribute to the modernization and the edification of the Republic of Moldova,' said PM Filat.

The justice ministers of Romania and the Republic of Moldova signed an action plan in the field for 2012-2013, and which PM Filat sees as ‘extremely important.' AGERPRES
