MPs Lupu and Filip discuss in Strasbourg cooperation between Romania and Moldova's parliaments

Deputy Chairman of Romania's Senate Petru Filip and Chairman of Moldova's Parliament Marian Lupu had a one-on-one meeting on Strasbourg on the sidelines of the European Conference of Parliament Presidents hosted by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), September 20-21.

The two officials discussed ways to continue cooperation between the national parliaments of the two countries, with emphasis on planning on actions that will lead to support for and promotion of Moldova's aspiration for closeness to the European Union. Also discussed was cooperation at the level of the Council of Europe, with the two agreeing that efforts should be sped up to present and recognise Moldova's progress with assimilating European rules and standards. Among these actions, there is the adoption as soon as possible of a decision to conclude Moldova's monitoring by the Council of Europe, the Romanian Senate reports in a press release issued on Friday.

At the meeting, the importance of cooperation and mutual support within the Council of Europe was also mentioned, particularly at the level of the PACE.

The two MPs also exchanged views on the current and future political developments in the two countries.

Filip is scheduled today to meet Chairman of the Polish Senate Bogdan Borusewicz; Chairman of the Federal Council of Austria Georg Keuschnigg; Chairman of the Dutch Senate Fred de Graaf and Deputy Chairman of the Italian Senate Vannino Chiti. AGERPRES
