The United States and Moldova Sign Agreements to Increase Assistance for Economic Growth, Local Government, and Rule of Law

Today, U.S. Ambassador to Moldova William H. Moser and Moldovan Prime Minister Vlad Filat held a signing ceremony for three bilateral assistance agreements which together provide an additional $11.5 million in new funding for activities that are focused on increasing exports and creating jobs, building the capacity of local authorities to provide improved public services, and strengthening judicial institutions to deliver effective justice.

U.S. Ambassador William H. Moser noted in his remarks that the additional funding to the assistance agreements demonstrates the commitment of the United States to help Moldova become a fully democratic, prosperous, and secure European state.

The signing ceremony took place in a jointly-developed phyto-sanitary laboratory that greatly increases Moldova’s capacity to conduct food safety certifications for agricultural exports.  Under the agreement, the Government of Moldova fully renovated the laboratory space, while the Agriculture Competitiveness and Enterprise Development Project (ACED), a joint program of the United Stated Agency for International Development (USAID) and Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), is providing equipment and training to help the laboratory to meet international standards.  Through such assistance, the U.S. Government is helping Moldova to expand its markets by meeting international quality standards.
