Georgia and Moldova align themselves with Council Decision on restrictive measures against Syria

The European Union has taken note of and welcomed a commitment by the Council and other countries, including Moldova and Georgia, regarding restrictive measures against Syria in a declaration by the EU’s High Representative.

On 15 October 2012, the Council adopted Decision 2012/634/CFSP1, which prohibits the purchase, import or transport of arms from Syria, as well as the provision of related financing or financial assistance. Furthermore, the access of Syrian Arab Airlines to the airports of EU Member States is prohibited, in addition to the existing prohibition on access of cargo flights from Syria.

There are also other amendments in this Council Decision, including the additional designations of persons and
entities.

Moldova and Georgia aligned themselves with this declaration along with Croatia, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro, Iceland, Serbia, Albania, Liechtenstein and Norway.

“They will ensure that their national policies conform to this Council Decision,” says the declaration. (EU Neighbourhood Info)
