Ponta: I had constructive talk with Republic of Moldova premier, reiterated continued common projects

Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta on Tuesday said he had a talk with the Republic of Moldova's acting Prime Minister Vlad Filat, in which he reconfirmed that all the common projects will continue.

'We had a very good and constructive conversation. I reiterated the continuation of all the common projects', Ponta told AGERPRES.

The Chisinau Government previously announced that Ponta and Filta had discussed the energy projects jointly conducted by the two neighbouring states and about the support Romania is willing to further render the Republic of Moldova's European integration process.

The two officials had a phone call in which they tackled the energy projects aimed at the electricity linking lines at Iasi-Ungheni, Gotesti-Falciu and Balti-Suceava as well as building the Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline. They stressed the pipeline building works will kick off in the shortest possible time, the Moldovan Government said in a release on Tuesday.

The two prime ministers also tackled issues relating Chisinau's European integration process, with Ponta re-confirming Romania's readiness to further support the Republic of Moldova with a view to achieving its European integration goal. Ponta and Filat made a review of the Romanian-Moldovan bilateral relations and underscored they are on an upward trend.

The gas pipeline is mainly aimed at providing an alternative natural gas supply source to the gas transport systems of Romania and the Republic of Moldova.

Under the project, a 31-kilometre long pipeline will be built in the Romanian territory and a 9-kilometre one in Moldova and also crossing the Prut river, on the two countries' border. The project cost is put at 19 million euros, with part of the expenditure to be covered by European funds.

During a visit paid by the Romanian prime minister to Chisinau on last July 17, a joint declaration was signed on the bilateral cooperation on energy security, which included the achievement of the Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline and the high-voltage electric lines linking Suceava to Balti and Iasi to Ungheni. Bucharest and Chisinau plan the Iasi-Ungheni gas connection to become operational by year-end.
