Romanian Foreign Affairs Minister Titus Corlatean on Friday met visiting Defence Minister of the Republic of Moldova Vitalie Marinuta, with the two officials highlighting the remarkable level of the bilateral relation both with respect to the political dialogue and the cooperation on various sectors, the foreign ministry said in a release.

Corlatean underscored that the priority of the Romanian Government's actions in the period immediately ahead must be the enforcement of the concrete understandings agreed during the recent meetings of the Romanian and Moldovan prime ministers (in Bucharest on this July 9 and in Chisinau, on Aug. 26-27), particularly those agreed for closer connecting Moldova to Romania and the European space implicitly, the release said.

The Romanian top diplomat hailed the extended cooperation of the two states' defence ministries and highlighted the role of the training programmes meant to consolidate the professional standards of the Republic of Moldova's military experts.

Also tackled were topical issues in the region, including the recent developments in the commercial relations between the Republic of Moldova and the Russian Federation. Corlatean informed the Moldovan minister about the conclusions drawn by the European Union as regards this file, the ministry announced.

Marinuta, who is paying a visit to Bucharest on an invitation from Romanian Defence Minister Mircea Dusa showed the priorities of the Chisinau Government's reform agenda and the results expected in this respect in the period immediately ahead, particularly as regards the moves being made by Chisinau to get closer to the European Union.

The Romanian foreign minister reiterated Bucharest's full support for the Republic of Moldova's European integration and for attaining the stage goals set for the forthcoming Eastern Partnership Summit due in Vilnius, in November.

Corlatean assured Marinuta that the enforcement of the new contractual outline between the Republic of Moldova and the EU, as soon as possible after the Vilnius Summit remains a prime objective for Romania.
