The Millennium Challenge Corporation is considering launching a new Compact in Moldova

During his visit to the USA last week the Moldovan Prime Minister Leanca talked to the MCC CEO Daniel Yohannes about the possibility to launch a new Compact in Moldova.

The head of the Executive said in a briefing today that the MCC CEO was positive about the launch of a new Compact due to the performances achieved in the implementation of the 2010-2015 Compact in Moldova, stressing that there are real conditions for the launch of the second Compact. Prime Minister Leanca added that a team of Moldovan and USA experts is expected to be created to identify the Compact 2 intervention areas, like education, energy etc.

The Prime Minister of Moldova stressed that during the meeting he updated the MCC CEO about the progress of the rehabilitation of the Sarateni-Soroca road and the central irrigation systems that is expected to speed up. In his speech Mr. Leanca stressed how critical the support provided to Moldova through the Compact is, especially that the Compact is a grant assistance program.

The Millennium Challenge Compact was signed in January 2010 by the Governments of Moldova and USA and became effective on September 1, 2010.

The USD 262 mil. Compact is a grant assistance provided for the period of 2010-2015 for growing the incomes of the Moldovan people through the development of the road infrastructure, rehabilitation of the irrigation systems and shift to the high value agriculture.
