Romania Gov't earmarks 20 M euros to Republic of Moldova educational system

The Romanian Government at its meeting approved a Resolution earmarking 90 million lei - the equivalent of 20 million euros - to support the Republic of Moldova's educational system.

The announcement was made by Prime Minister Victor Ponta at the beginning of the sitting, also attended by visiting Moldovan Premier Iurie Leanca.

Ponta underscored 'words are not enough' to support neighbouring Moldova and he cited a range of concreted moves made by Bucharest to back Chisinau.

'It is a time when we can show more solidarity and be more serious when we speak of the Republic of Moldova. /.../ Words are not enough. Beyond the words, if we complete the Romanian side of the gas pipeline, because it has been talked about for ten years and nothing had been done whatsoever... This year, we completed the high-voltage line at Falciu-Gotesti, which we must commission. The TVR (Romanian public television), finally after seven years is broadcasting in the Republic of Moldova and this is an important thing. State Secretary (at the Health Ministry Raed — editor's note) Arafat has drawn up an informational material, which I handed over to Prime Minister Leanca and one of the most successful systems in Romania, the SMURD (mobile emergency and extrication service, set up by Arafat — editor's note) must be extended to the Republic of Moldova too', Ponta said.

The Romanian prime minister added: 'As for the visas, we have made a decision and all the Moldovan citizens who have a Schengen visa will enter Romania with no other additional visa starting February 1 /.../ — these are very, very concrete things, which help indeed and which I hope will support every citizen in the Republic of Moldova and support the Government so that next year, in November, when there are elections, it might stay this pro-European course of the Republic of Moldova'.

'These are extremely important gestures by which we show that, if we had a good year, Moldova should also have a good year', the Romanian head of Government stressed. Agerpres
