The State Enterprise "Calea Ferată din Moldova" (CFM/ Moldovan Railways) intends using the proceeds of the loans from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Investment Bank (EIB) for infrastructure rehabilitation. The infrastructure rehabilitation is part of the ample and ambitious Restructuring and Reorganization Project of the Moldovan Railways, financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the European Investment Bank and the European Union’s Neighborhood Investment Facility.
The Moldovan Railways has launched the tender today (22nd February 2019) in order to select the company that will carry out the railway infrastructure rehabilitation works. The tendering will be conducted using the EBRD Client E-Procurement Portal (ECEPP) and interested companies shall register in ECEPP (https://ecepp.ebrd.com ) if they want to submit the tender as no other means of tenders submission will be accepted.
The selected company will be responsible for the preparation of the design for and rehabilitation of approximately 233 km of railway line Bender-Basarabeasca-Etulia-Giurgiulesti and renovation of Giurgiulesti station. The contract’s scope includes amongst other, renewal and modernization of track, control command and signalling, telecommunications, level crossings and energy supply equipment.
The implementation of this project should allow the speed of trains to be increased up to 100 km/ h and increase in the freight transport flows. The announced tender is conducted in two stages, where at first only technical proposals are submitted and then responsive tenderers will be invited to submit their financial offers.
In addition, we are pleased to report, that following recent signing of the contract for the purchase of 12 new freight diesel locomotives, CFM expects their arrival to Moldova in the beginning of next year. Moreover, CFM plans to shortly launch another tender to select a company that will be asked to implement the energy management information system in CFM.
