Minister of National Defence Gabriel Oprea reaffirmed, in Chisinau, within the meeting with his counterpart, Vitalie Marinuta, readiness on the part of the institution he heads to continue to provide expertise to the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Moldova.
Bilateral military cooperation and the regional situation were the main topics on the agenda of talks, the two Ministers identifying ways to strengthen relations of cooperation between the two armies by the joint training of troops and at the level of political-military dialogue, for the promotion of internal reforms and modernization of the armed forces, MApN informs in a press release remitted to AGERPRES.
According to the quoted source, Minister Gabriel Oprea appreciated the upward trend of the military relations, as well as progress made by the Republic of Moldova' government, showing that Romania backs European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations of the Republic of Moldova.
The Romanian Minister of National Defence underlined that, bilaterally, the Romanian side will continue to provide assistance and consultancy in the reform process of the army, with emphasis on staff training by joint drills, as well as in the field of military education, by further training some of the Republic of Moldova's officers in military education institutions in Romania.
In turn, Minister Vitalie Marinuta expressed satisfaction on the progress of the political and military relations between Romania and the Republic of Moldova, always based on mutual trust. The Republic of Moldova's Minister of Defense has expressed interest in the Romanian Army Euro-Atlantic experience and appreciated the Romanian Army availability to provide expertise in the implementation of the objectives included in the Individual Action Plan in the field of Republic of Moldova-NATO Partnership.
The program of the official visit of Minister Gabriel Oprea to the Republic of Moldova included meetings with the president of the Republic of Moldova, Nicolae Timofti, and the Prime Minister, Vlad Filat. During Defense top officials' talks, Minister Gabriel Oprea expressed satisfaction for the dynamic relations of cooperation between the two countries and reiterated Romania's support for the European aspirations of Chisinau.
