Speaking at an annual meeting of members of an EU-Moldova twinning network in Chisinau, the Head of the European Union Delegation to Moldova, Mr Dirk Schuebel, has described this year as being the most successful in EU-Moldova cooperation until now.
“This year, the amount of EU assistance to Moldova reached the highest figure – €152 million, i.e. €41 per citizen – the absolute record in the Neighbourhood, denoting the EU’s trust in Moldova. The European Union is pleased with Moldova’s utilisation of funds and we encourage the government to keep the same pace in the implementation of reforms,” said Mr Schuebel.
The meeting, which brought together over 120 government officials, donors, civil society representatives and the media, was opened by Moldova’s Prime Minister, Mr Vlad Filat.
“The upcoming year will be a crucial one: we envisage signing the Association Agreement and establishing the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area. From that point onwards, our reforms agenda will be even more extended, and this will require concentrated efforts, clear division of responsibilities and a full involvement of each and every civil servant,” said Filat.
According to Vlad Filat, the EU institution building instruments – Twinning, TAIEX, SIGMA – are the key tools in implementing the government of Moldova’s objectives. The Prime Minister thanked all those involved in the implementation of Twinning projects: “Thanks to your efforts, but also the efforts of the State Chancellery, the external assistance utilisation in Moldova has become much more transparent lately. It is absolutely crucial to continue to ensure this.”
