Romanian President Traian Basescu on Sunday welcomed the European People's Party (EPP) leader Joseph Daul at the presidential Cotroceni Palace, asking him for support so that May 27 be set as the date for the Republic of Moldova to sign the European Union Association Agreement as part of an informal meeting of the European Council.
According to a release issued by the Presidential Administration, Basescu and Daul, who heads the EPP group in the European Parliament, also tackled the Romanian political situation during the meeting. 'They also discussed the developments in the Republic of Moldova, an occasion for President Traian Basescu to inform Mr Joseph Daul that he had sent a letter on March 25 to all the European Council leaders, asking them to set the date of signing the Association Agreement, including the deep and comprehensive free trade agreement between the European Union and the member states, on the one hand and the Republic of Moldova on the other on May 27, on the occasion of the European Council informal meeting in Brussels and he asked Daul for support in setting this date for signing', the release stressed.
